This segregation has resulted in a serious breakdown of interaction and communication among the generations affected. The consequences of this issue are detrimental to the social function and organization of our society. This paper aims to produce an intergenerational model between the elderly and children which functions to bridge the interaction gap between the two generations. This study adopted the NGT (Nominal Group Technique) and Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) methods. NGT is used to identify the suitable intergenerational activities to bridge the gap while ISM is used to produce a model by integrating experts’ opinion pertaining to the subject. Ten (10) activities were identified to be put into a model via ISM aid software. The derived model indicated relationships among activities and these activities were distributed into 4 quadrants. This shows that intergenerational activities for the elderly must not only take consideration of multiple activities but also the integration among the activities. The model of intergenerational programmes can be the basis of developing and implementing intergenerational activities guidelines in Malaysia.
Ngu Kee Shing Saedah Siraj Norlidah Alias Copyright (c) 2024 2024-05-02 2024-05-02 12 2 1 8 SERVICE LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION TOWARDS CHARACTER EDUCATION CURRICULUM: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW https://jati.um.edu.my/index.php/JUKU/article/view/51889
Amid this disruptive era, every country faces various social and moral issues, such as ethnic conflict, loss of social care, and social bullying. Due to that, the good character of each individual becomes increasingly important. However, character education in Indonesia, is yet to be optimal because the cognitive aspect still dominates and moral degradation is an ongoing issue among the younger generation. In an international context, this systematic review study provides a research map on developing character education through experience-based learning, such as service learning in higher education institutions. This literature review used the PRISMA approach. Articles published in trustworthy databases from 2013 to 2023 were reviewed, and 9 of 859 were selected for detailed synthesis and analysis. The review revealed that: a) the experiential learning model in service learning is effective in integrated character education curriculum; b) research often emphasizes values of responsibility and compassion; c) the reflection method in service learning is character education practice. This research suggests that service learning is a crucial approach to applying character education curriculum in higher education.
Obby Taufik Hidayat Vishalache Balakrishnan Copyright (c) 2024 2024-05-02 2024-05-02 12 2 9 21 CHALLENGES FROM PHYSICAL CLASS TO ONLINE LEARNING IN YOUNG CHILDREN AND PRESCHOOL TEACHERS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC https://jati.um.edu.my/index.php/JUKU/article/view/51890
As an urgent response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ministry of Education Malaysia mandated that all schools stop physical class and use online platforms to deliver lessons. However, it has been found that teachers possess only a moderate level of knowledge and understanding of action research. This quantitative study, employing a survey research design, seeks to determine the extent of teachers' knowledge and understanding of action research. Using the purposive sampling technique, 335 teachers were randomly chosen as respondents based on the Krejcie and Morgan sample sizing method. A questionnaire was administered to assess the teachers’ knowledge and understanding related to the implementation of action research. The results revealed that teachers' knowledge and understanding of action research implementation remain at a moderate level. The findings highlights the need for teachers to deepen their grasp of action research concepts and for stakeholders to actively support teachers in enhancing their understanding and application of these practices.
Rayner bin Tangkui Naima binti Kadir Noemi binti Linus Afinah A.
