Abstract

In order to understand ASEAN and its behavior When it began as the ASEAN FIVE, perhaps it would be useful to peek a little into its history which began this way.  For some reason which is the subject of another topic, the formation of Malaysia was opposed by Indonesia and the Philippines. While the disappropriation by the Philippines was expressed in nonviolent but diplomatic ways affecting the diplomatic relations of two countries, the Indonesian led by President Sukarno who was very much under the influence of PKI (Communist Party of Indonesia) expressed it in the form of "konfrantasi" (confrontation) which in part violent means were used and all the hostile acts of diploma;y and propaganda thoroughly confusing the Malay peoples of both countries.
